After just two episodes, the TLC show has come under fire for deceiving viewers about the five Amish and Mennonite men and women it follows as they visit New York City for the first time. While each cast member claims to have grown up in the strict communities, evidence has surfaced suggesting they have decidedly dark pasts - involving divorce, children and time away from the faith. It comes in stark contrast to the naive characters portrayed on the show, who stare slack-jawed at Manhattan's towering buildings and pray as they travel by plane 'for the first time'. TLC's show Breaking Amish has come under fire for its false claims about its characters' pasts.

She told police officers who responded to the scene that her husband had made 'several threats' to harm her and had 'struck her with a closed fist,' the website said. Legal trouble: Jeremiah Raber, from TLC's Breaking Amish series, has been arrested in Florida for allegedly assaulting his wife Carmela, pictured together in a photo shared via social media. According to law enforcement, Carmela had 'several large bruises on her arms and legs' and told cops Jeremiah beat her 'on a daily basis. Jeremiah, however, told Radar that there was another side to the story. It goes both ways and I have the evidence to prove it and it will be released soon enough,' he added. Arrested: Jeremiah, 37, pictured in a Facebook photo, insisted he has evidence to prove his innocence.
The cast-members' move to New York City differs from Rumspringa , the rite of passage in which some year-old Amish are allowed to experience the outside world and to decide whether or not they wish to remain with their home communities. A news report on February 25, , stated that TLC had ordered a second season of Breaking Amish with the original cast. A fourth and final season of the show entitled Breaking Amish: Brooklyn debuted on September 18, , with a new cast as well. One of the cast members, Matt, would go on make appearances in the fifth season of the spinoff series Return to Amish. Shortly after the first episode was aired, several news outlets reported that all of the cast had left their respective communities prior to taping the show, or that they were already married. As episodes progressed, the production steadily revealed other aspects of the cast's past activities, including items not previously released as spoilers by other media outlets. A subtitle is added to this season entitled: Brave New World.
