Through our unique approach, we focus on improvisation and composition as the major tools for your musical growth. Study music theory, composition, literature, computer music, and chorus from composers, performers, and educators. Many of our faculty members were students at Walden before going on to study at some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. Every student at the Walden School has an opportunity to exercise their creativity in a warm, supportive environment. Have questions about Miles of Music? Feel free to shoot us an email, and we will respond to you just as quickly as we can! Join our newsletter on the Home page to get updates and access to camp sign-ups before everyone else! Our flagship event is an annual week-long music retreat for all ages on a private island in New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee. We also host winter weekends, concerts and dances in Brooklyn and Boston. The week includes classes, dances, jams, great food and plenty of free time on a gorgeous private island in New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee. Our instructors are a mix of renowned touring professionals, legendary players steeped in specific traditional music styles, and up-and-coming original musicians. We teach fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, singing, and occasionally other instruments, and we also have instruction for non-instrument-specific musical skills like songwriting, ear training, ensemble playing, and performance. With over creative people including instructors, guest artists, kitchen staff, boat pilots and students, Miles of Music becomes one vibrant village for seven days. There are moments of jamming and dancing in large groups as well as opportunities to steal away for one-on-one song sharing or tunes on the porch.
